While we have entered back into the virtual environments we were in back in March, clearly some things changed. Although restaurants opened back up for a brief period and events could take place at lowered capacities, we’ve lost the ability to do such things since November 20.
One service that hasn’t changed is the ability to order food to-go or for delivery. Although it may seem that being stuck at home is the perfect time to really hone in on the cooking skills that have gone by the wayside, restaurants are still struggling to see profits this year as they enter into the typically busy holiday seasons.
As sent out in student community emails, a survey was conducted of CSS students. In this short questionnaire, 21 percent of the participants reported that they didn’t use or were unfamiliar with what the best type of food delivery service was.
On the other hand, the overwhelming majority of survey respondents noted that DoorDash was the best delivery option. These 46.8 percent of students in the majority were followed up with roughly 17 percent of students reporting a favoritism for Uber Eats. In third place, 7.7 percent of the participants following each of these services chose Postmates as their most frequented delivery option. In a tie for fifth place respectively is Grubhub and Instacart, holding onto just 3.1 percent of the votes.
In addition to these services, many still choose to get their delivery service directly from the food destination of their choice. Rather than working through a third party delivery system, the option to get delivery from a restaurant or, as is more popular, a pizza place, is still prevalent.
However, each of these delivery services, such as DoorDash, Uber Eats, Food Dudes and the like, got their rising popularity from being able to deliver fast foods that typically were unable to offer delivery. Any way you slice it, delivery has been changed for the better and can still be used even when dine-in options are temporarily unavailable.
